Join the Tour de Virtual Cycling Challenge

Radio Border’s Cash for Kids are bringing a virtual cycling challenge to the Borders to try and get local people back on their bikes in aid of a local charity. With the Tour de Virtual they are challenging cyclists to jump on their bikes, whether inside on the turbo trainer or outside on road, gravel or mountain bike to cycle the following distances before the end of May:

Beginners – 800km

Advanced – 1,600km

Elite – 2,500km

Who are Cash for Kids? Cash for Kids are a children’s charity connected to the local radio station Radio Borders. Every penny raised by supporters of Radio Border’s Cash for Kids is spent within the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. Their bank account is based in Galashiels and every penny raised within the community stays in the community. They guarantee your fundraising will be spent to support a child in your local area.

How does it work? Cash for Kids support children through quarterly grant rounds. Anyone can apply, whether it’s a family, community group or other small children’s charity. They look to support as many children who need our help as they can. The kids they help either have additional support needs, a life limiting illness, or are living in poverty. Right now their Charity Manager, Alice Edwards, is focusing on the upcoming grant round where they have over £20,000 applied for. Alice needs all the support she can get to help these children. Every quarter they grant out everything raised, and start fundraising again for the next quarter. Although linked to the radio station Cash for Kids aren’t a big charity and very much rely on local supporters – people, businesses and schools.

How do I take part? Once signed up you will receive updates, monthly challenges, and an invitation to join the Strava groups to track your progress.

If you manage to raise £100 for our local charity you will automatically be offered free entry to a real cycling event in June – the Tour de Forth (fingers crossed it can go ahead!)
