Tour of Britain Information for Residents

Kelso will host both the start and finish of Stage Two of the 2019 OVO Energy Tour of Britain on Sunday 8 September.

Every year the Tour of Britain attracts some of the world’s top cyclists, including Olympic, World and Commonwealth champions and the Scottish Borders has hosted successful stage starts and finishes over a number of years, including in Kelso town centre in 2017.

This year, Kelso will host both the stage start and finish, with the entire route in the Borders.

Road closures and potential disruption to home deliveries

The following town centre road closures and restrictions will be in place before and during the event. If you are expecting any home courier deliveries during these times, please can you make alternative arrangements.

Parking

Free event parking will be available at Springwood Park. On-street parking will be restricted and residents can also make use of Springwood Park for parking where necessary.

Closures

The following roads will be closed on Sunday 8 September 2019 from 03:45 to 21:00:

  • The Square
  • Kelso Bridge, from Maxwellheugh to Bridge Street
  • Bridge Street, from Kelso Bridge to The Square
  • Roxburgh Street, from The Square to Union Street
  • Horsemarket, from The Square to Rose Lane
  • Woodmarket, from The Square to Abbey Row
  • Abbey Row, from Woodmarket to Bridge Street

Vehicular movements from the following streets may be subject to disruption due to the Bridge Street closure, however, residents parking will still be available: Mill Wynd, Oven Wynd, Havannah Court, Abbey Court – leading to Rennie Court.

To avoid the closures follow Maxwellheugh, Station Road and the A698. Sentries will be situated at closure points to advise the public.

No Parking

Parking will be prohibited from 18:00 on 7 September to 21:00 on 8 September 2019 on:

  • Kelso Bridge, from Maxwellheugh to Bridge Street
  • Bridge Street, from Kelso Bridge to The Square
  • The Square
  • Roxburgh Street, from The Square to Union Street
  • Horsemarket, from The Square to Rose Lane
  • Woodmarket, from The Square to Abbey Row
  • Abbey Row, from Woodmarket to Bridge Street
  • The Butts, from Abbey Row to The Knowes
  • Union Street

Parking will be prohibited from 06:00 to 21:00 on 8 September 2019 on:

  • Roxburgh Street, from Union Street to Edinburgh Road (Excl. widened parking area)
  • Bowmont Street, from Edinburgh Road to East Bowmont Street
  • East Bowmont Street, from Bowmont Street to Rose Lane
  • Rose Lane, from Horsemarket to Shedden Park Rd
  • Shedden Park Road, from Woodmarket to Sharpitlaw House
  • A698, from Shedden Park Road to Station Road
  • Station Road, from A698 to Maxwellheugh
  • Maxwellheugh, from Station Road to Kelso Bridge
  • Edinburgh Road, from Bowmont Street to A6089
  • A699, from Teviot Bridge to Kelso Bridge
  • Edenside Road, from Rose Lane to Forestfield
  • The Knowes, from The Butts to Mayfield Gardens

If possible, parking restrictions will be lifted earlier than 9pm on Sunday evening, but this cannot be guaranteed.

One Way

The one way order on Union Street from Crawford Street to Roxburgh Street will be reversed from 03:45-21:00 on Sunday 8 September.

Disabled Parking

Disabled parking will be available in the Waggon Car Park for the duration of the closures.
